“All states must transparently live up to international commitments that they have undertaken,” Mukherjee said.

Mukherjee was delivering a speech at the dinner hosted for the delegates attending a two-day international conference here commemorating the 20th anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s ‘action plan’ on nuclear disarmament presented before the UN General Assembly in 1988.

Mukherjee’s comments came in the light of revelations about disgraced Pakistani nuclear scientist A.Q. Khan’s clandestine nuclear network.

Mukherjee said on the anniversary of Gandhi’s ‘action plan’ it may be time to build a consensus on a comprehensive disarmament and non-proliferation framework that allows international community to initiate concrete steps towards the goals of nuclear disarmament.

India is ready to join efforts towards building such a consensus, he added.
