Jeddah : The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu welcomed the signing of a peace agreement yesterday in Djibouti by the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and the opposition Alliance for the Re-Liberation of Somalia (ARS). Prof. Ihsanoglu congratulated the parties for the positive outcome after days of intensive negotiations and hoped that the accord would finally bring durable peace, stability and development to the Somali nation, according to an OIC statement.
The OIC Chief urged the signatories to henceforth remember the heavy responsibilities placed on them and therefore sincerely commit themselves to the full implementation of the agreement in order to promptly terminate the sufferings of their people. While commending the facilitation role played by Djibouti and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in brokering the accord in which the OIC also made a vital contribution, the secretary general reiterated the determination of the OIC to continue to contribute to all endeavors aimed at achieving complete reconciliation and reconstruction of Somalia.
