Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh): The efforts of the state government to cover madrasas under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan are being resisted by madrasa authorities.
Considering this opposition, the state government has hired the services of an NGO to convince and motivate the management of madrasas that vocational education is beneficial for their students.
In a consultative conference held here on the topic of ‘Daily Life and Earnings’, state Project Director of the Abhiyan, Dr. Mohammad Ali Rifat, said that they are facing too much difficulties in bringing religious madrasas in the mainstream of the society. He further pointed that one of the aims of the campaign is that contemporary education also be offered in these madrasas, along with the religious education.
However, when asked, the representative of the NGO, Gurpreet Bhatiya told that no encouraging result came forth initially but after making regular efforts for two years, three madrasas came forward to cooperate with it. The NGO helps madrasa students in obtaining vocational education.
Rifat claims that eleven religious madrasas have nodded to join the campaign after their initial resistance.
Although another report claims even bigger success, saying that the campaign has become popular in the state and several hundred madrasas have joined it because vocational education provides easy access to employment.
