The meeting Monday included senior officers of the Lebanese Army, who looked into measures that could be taken by the army to limit the violence and ensure security in the northern region.

The recent violence in Tripoli led to the death and injury of many people, as well as cause heavy damage to homes in the area.

Meanwhile, the authorities warned citizens not to be taken in by reports of local tabloids and the press in the country.

The Lebanese Army issued a statement to the public stating that these organisations have spread rumours regarding the Tripoli violence, that add to the tension in the area.

Chief of the Kataeb (Phalangist) Party Amin Al-Jemayel also expressed disappointment over the unavailability of an internationally established medium between Lebanon and Israel to solve the issue of the Lebanese Sheba’a Farms occupied by Israel.

Germany recently successfully handled an exchange of prisoners between the Lebanese radical movement Hezbollah and Israel.

He suggested “acceptable mediums” to Israel “like France or Jordan,” to handle the issue.
