Cairo : Arab foreign ministers participating in the “Union for the Mediterranean” conference in Paris will hold a meeting on July 12 to coordinate stances and discuss the union’s mechanism, said Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abulgheit on Wednesday.
In a statement to “Al-Ahram” daily, he said this new initiative would in no way replace joint Arab action, adding that “Arabism is not a political interest for Egypt; it represents our identity and roots … we cannot separate ourselves from it.”
He said that his country’s role in the region was “real and clear for everyone to see,” especially with regard to the Palestinian issue.
He noted that since the launch of the union initiative, Egypt had reiterated the need to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli issue in line with the Barcelona Agreement.
