Gaza : Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert will head Sunday a meeting to discuss resumption of negotiations with Hamas on the Israeli soldier still held in Gaza Strip, Israeli Radio said.
The radio Sunday reported that an official concerned with the kidnapped Israeli soldiers dossier will head to Cairo this week to hold talks with Chief of the Egyptian intelligence Agency General Omar Sulaiman who is mediating between the Israelis and Palestinians.
Palestinian media stressed Saturday that Hamas did not respond yet to Sulaiman’s request to send a delegation representing the movement to Egypt to discuss the issue of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
Meanwhile, Yedioth Ahronoth Israeli newspaper said Olmert might ask Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for more effort to reach agreement between Israel and Hamas that ensures the release of Shalit.
According to Israeli officials, Hamas is asking for the release of Palestinian prisoners who were indicated by name in return, and it is concentrating on the prisoners’ identities, not number.
More than 11,000 Palestinian prisoners are behind bars in Israeli jails.
