Kolkata : The email threat about serial bombings in the city Tuesday evening turned out to be a hoax.
The email had threatened multiple bomb blasts in the city at 10 p.m. Tuesday.
On tracking the Internet protocol (IP) address of the email the police came to know that it was sent from a cyber café in Salt Lake and the cyber cafe’s owner was arrested.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty told in a press conference at city police headquarters Lal Bazar: “The person has been arrested since he is the owner of the cyber café and a specific case has been initiated against him. We are also looking into all other aspects of the case.”
According to police sources, the owner denied the charge of sending the hoax mail and said that some people visited his cyber café Monday evening and used some computers. The owner said that those people might have sent that mail to the media organizations triggering a panic all over the city.
