Armed Taliban on Monday overrun booster of Pakistan television in Bajaur tribal area, which also interrupted the transmission.

The local authorities had formed a jirga or council of tribal elders to hold talks with Taliban to end their occupation of the booster.

Tribal elders held series of talks with Taliban on Monday and Tuesday refused to end booster control.

The troops from Bajaur Scouts used artillery to bomb a hilltop at ‘Koi Sar’ area where armed Taliban had occupied the booster, a local journalist said when reached on phone at Khar, the center of Bajaur.

There was no immediate report of any casualty.

Correspondents said that Taliban had also occupied the building of a government school in the same area, and the jirga failed to end the control.

Taliban are very active in Bajaur tribal region and the group spokesman Maulvi Umar also belongs to the area.

Last month Taliban publicly executed two men in Bajaur over the espionage charges.

Taliban have also established own courts in the region to deliver verdicts.
