Colombo : At least 14 Tamil Tiger rebels died during fierce combats against Sri Lankan military that are advancing on their enclave north Jaffna Peninsula, a report form the Ministry of Defense points out.
According to the dispatch, 10 members of TLTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam), including two regional leaders died in areas of Kandaperumakulama, Pokkaravani and Navatkulama, in the district of Vavuniya, some 149 miles north Colombo.
Government forces also attacked TLTE fortresses south Acampan, in the region of Mannar, killing two rebels.
The army also destroyed two concrete casemates of Tamil rebels in Kilaly and Nagarkovil, in the district of Jaffna, killing two more.
Ministry of Defense likewise reported that its soldiers occupied one part of the insurgent area of Thanmpane in the sector of Vavuniya-Mannar, north that island in Indic Ocean.
In the last months, government offensives left TLTE with the control of a 10 percent of the territory east Sri Lanka, especially in wooded areas of difficult access, according to official sources.
