Pakistan deploys Army to maintain peace

Rawalpindi : Army was deployed in most parts of southern Sindh province to maintain peace in the troubled areas, where violence claimed more than 20 lives on Friday.

“On requisition of Sindh Government Army troops have been deployed in 16 Districts of the Province including Karachi to assist local administration in restoration of law and order,” an army statement said.

Army authorities have been tasked to coordinate law enforcement action being conducted by Police and Rangers.

In case situation goes out of hand of these agencies Army units will be employed to restore law and order, he emphasized.

The spokesman said that Army has taken over security of sensitive installations and national assets in Karachi and other places in Sindh.

While troops are patrolling in troubled localities in Karachi, Larkana, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Thatta and Badin.

In addition to it, he said that a special relief camp has been established at Pano Aqil where 1,100 stranded passengers of three trains are being provided shelter, food and other amenities.

Army deployment is to assist civil administration.

Deterioration in law and order situation has been because of criminal elements who have indulged in looting and arson in the grab of backlash in the aftermath of sad demise of Ms Benazir Bhutto, the spokesman concluded.
