Iran-Oman aiming for $1B trade exchange

Tehran : Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Tehran and Muscat are trying to increase their trade exchanges level in the framework of joint cooperation development from 200 million dollars to one billion dollars.

In a press conference with Omani Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousuf Bin al-Alawi Bin Abdullah here Saturday, Mottaki said, “The two countries intend to promote their trade and economic ties to the level of their political relations.”

He added, “During President Ahmadinejad’s visit to Oman, in the early current year, good decisions were made for joint economic commission activities and foreign ministries of the two countries were assigned new responsibilities in this concern.”

The important project of gas transition from Iran to Oman and the presence of Iranian experienced contractor companies in Oman are among positive steps in bilateral cooperation.

He continued joint investment in the fields of petrochemicals, industry and energy are among fields which were discussed.

Mottaki said, “Part of my negotiations with my Omani counterpart has been exploring ways to follow up President Ahmadinejad’s proposals in Qatar summit.”

The Iranian senior diplomat said, “In today’s foreign ministers’ talks, issues like Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine were discussed.” Mottaki continued cooperation with Oman in the fields of security, fight against drugs, organized crimes and smuggling will continue upon bilateral agreements.
