Judges living under fear in MP, seek security

Bhopal, July 1: The people in the judiciary who administer justice to the victims of wrong-doings by pronouncing judgments are living under fear in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The courts of law, where justice is delivered, have witnessed scenes of violence in the recent past in the state with the judges being targeted and hapless security personnel being mute spectators.. 
   
As such alarmed over the spate of attacks on judges and violence in court premises across Madhya Pradesh, the judges sought the state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's immediate intervention in providing security in order to uphold the dignity and honour of judges and the courts. The delegation also met Director General of Madhya Pradesh Police AR Pawar on Friday on the same issue.
   
A delegation of Madhya Pradesh Judges Association met Chouhan in Bhopal and sought adequate security in court premises. They also drew the Chief Minister's attention towards the attack on a judge immediately after he sentenced a convict at Begumganj in neighbouring Raisen district.
   
According to official sources, Chouhan took a serious view of the grievances of the judges and directed principal secretary, Home, Satya Prakash to take adequate steps to provide fool-proof security to the judges, while stern measures should be taken to curb criminal activities at court premises.  
   
Prakash assured the Chief Minister that security steps would be tightened in consultation with the judges.
