Roads in Jaipur wore a deserted look, especially in the afternoons, with the city recording 44 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal. While Sri Ganganagar was sweltering at 46.3, Churu was blazing at 46.1 degrees Celsius.

Bikaner and Ajmer also faced the heat at 43 and 42 degrees Celsius respectively.

While the mercury did dip slightly as compared to Sunday, the weather department has predicted a further drop in the next two days.

"Isolated dust storms and thunderstorms are expected to hit Rajasthan that will lower day temperatures in the next two-three days," a meteorological official said.

Maximum temperatures are likely to hover between 39-45 degrees Celsius in the next couple of days, he added.

The only people doing brisk business are ice cream vendors, movie halls and shopping malls.

"I beat the heat by watching a movie in the afternoon or spending time in the air-conditioned shopping malls," said Yogesh Chandra, a college student.

Gopal, an ice cream vendor here is also not complaining. "I am selling double the quantity of ice creams because of the extreme heat."
