Brussels : The European Union-India energy panel will hold its third meeting in Brussels Wednesday to take stock of energy cooperation between the two sides.
The meeting will exchange views on the activities of the working groups and also prepare for the upcoming 8th EU-India summit in New Delhi in November, EU sources told INEPNEXT news service here.
The EU side will be led by Matthias Ruete, director general (energy and transport) in the European Commission, and the Indian side by Nalin Surie, secretary (west) of the ministry of external affairs.
The EU-India energy panel was established following the strategic partnership concluded between the EU and India in 2004 when leaders on the two sides agreed to commence wide-ranging dialogue on energy.
At their inaugural meeting in Brussels in June 2005, the panel decided to set up three working groups in coal and clean coal conversion technologies, energy efficiency and renewable energies, and fusion energy including India's participation in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project.
Visiting India in April 2006, EU energy commissioner Andris Piebalgs had stressed that the 27-member bloc is keen for stronger energy cooperation with India.
