Indian, Pak soldiers exchange small arms fire

Jammu, May 15 (NAK): Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged small arms fire for a brief period along the International Border in RS Pura Sector of Jammu district, late last night.

Reports reaching here revealed that Border Security Force (BSF) personnel manning a forward post at Kathmaria in RS Pura fired few shots after noticing a suspicious movement along the international border, around 1:30 AM, last night.

However, Pakistan Rangers allegedly retaliated with small arms fire creating panic in the adjoining villages. The firing continued for more than fifteen minutes from both sides of the border, a local villager told News Agency of Kashmir.

However, an official spokesman said that the BSF foiled an infiltration bid by a group of militants, who were trying to sneak to this side of border, late last evening.

The spokesman said that the BSF personnel on duty forced the militants to returned back to Pakistan side.

Indian and Pakistan announced ceasefire along the border about three years back and since than the borders in the state are said to be clam. However, stray incidents of violation of ceasefire have taken place on number of occasion with troops of each county blaming their counterparts on the other side for breaking the ceasefire agreement.
