Baghdad : During the last two weeks of September, 205 terrorists were killed and arrested, while 77 displaced families returned to their homes in Baghdad, said an Iraqi military official.
During a press conference Wednesday, spokesman for Operation Law and Order Brigadier Qassem Ata-Allah said 26 terrorists were killed and 179 others were arrested during Sept 15-30.
The prisoners included a number of Al-Qaeda figure heads, the commander of the so-called Islamic Army, as well as a number of leaders of foreign militants, with one being an Egyptian and another from Yemen, noted Ata-Allah.
As for the number of Iraqi prisoners held during the operation, he said a total of 6,542 people were apprehended, 1,814 were released and 3,509 were referred to Iraqi courts for further investigations.
The forces diffused six booby-trapped cars and 126 bombs, and confiscated a great amount of plans, weapons, explosive material and other equipment, he added.
Last week, he said, the military engineering academy was inaugurated in Baghdad and it is expected to graduate 450 bomb experts this year.
