Chhattisgarh tax collection up nearly 10 percent

Raipur : The mineral-rich Chhattisgarh state has collected taxes worth more than Rs.14.26 billion in the first six months of the current financial year, up by 9.3 percent from the Rs.13.26 billion in the corresponding period last fiscal, commercial taxes minister Amar Agrawal said here Wednesday.

“The value-added tax (VAT) collection is up by 14 percent and entry taxes are up by five percent,” Agrawal told IANS Wednesday.

“I held a review meeting of the commercial taxes department Tuesday. We are satisfied with the tax collections made in the current fiscal so far, but I instructed senior officials that there are lots of possibilities to take the collection to a record level,” the minister added.

He said that during the next six months, the commercial taxes department would ensure that dozens of private companies and small firms cough up millions of rupees of pending taxes. He informed that government would take stern legal action against tax evaders.
