“My brothers, the emirs of the struggling groups, Muslims are waiting for you to unite under one banner,” bin Laden said in the tape, broadcast Monday by Qatar-based independent Arabic broadcaster Al Jazeera and titled A Message to the People of Iraq.

Wanted terrorist bin Laden called on Al Qaeda members in the war-ravaged country to “be ware of extremism” urging them to owe their allegiance to their Islamic faith “and not to tribe, nation or organisation”.

“Be ware of your enemies, especially the hypocrites that infiltrate your ranks to incite sedition between the struggling groups,” added the tape without making clear whom Bin Laden meant by “hypocrites”.

The message did not contain indications of when it might have been recorded.
