Gaza : The Israeli government is Sunday expected to approve recommendations by the Israeli Army to cut fuel supplies and electric power to Gaza Strip.
According to Radio Israel, the cabinet in its weekly meeting today would approve the punitive measures on the volatile region.
Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai yesterday confirmed that implementation of the said measures would start Sunday or Monday after getting the Israeli legal system’s approval as well.
Radio Israel quoted security sources saying “the aim of the measures is to make sure the Palestinians fully realize that Israel intends to break away from and sever economic ties with Gaza Strip.”
The sources said the army also intends to close Sufa Crossing in northeast Rafah and expand operation of Karem Shalom Crossing in the southeast. Karni Crossing is to remain closed and there is no intention to re-open it, they said
