A Defense Ministry statement said eight suspected terrorists were apprehended during a joint operation with the NATO-led ISAF troops in Shahr-e-Safa district of the southern Zabul province.

Some arms and ammunitions were also recovered from their possession, said the ministry’s statement.

Separately, three more suspects were held in a swoop in Zerook district of Paktika province.
The detainees were holding guns while nearly 200 bullets were also recovered from them.

In yet another operation in the southeastern Khost province, the troops arrested two more suspected Taliban militants along with arms and ammunitions.

The statement did not disclose the identity of any of the detainees.

A day earlier, a military statement had said the troops had killed three Taliban and arrested a notorious commander, Mullah Naqeebullah. However, there is no statement from the Taliban on the arrest of Mullah Naqeebullah or the recent arrest claimed by the Afghan government.
