Six Maoists arrested in Jharkhand

Ranchi : Six Maoists belonging to the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) were arrested in Jharkhand, the police said Thursday.

The arrested included ‘area commander’ of the outfit Surendra Ganjhu. According to the police, the rebels were arrested near Topa village of Ramgarh district, 70 km from here.

The police recovered a Bolero vehicle, two country-made pistols, seven mobile phones and live cartridges from the rebels.

TPC is a breakaway group of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist.

In the last three days, nine rebels have been killed and 11 arrested from various parts of the state. Maoists are active in 18 of the 24 districts in Jharkhand.

In the past seven years, more than 1,000 people including civilians and rebels have been killed in the Maoist conflicts.
