Colombo : Sri Lanka Defense Ministry reported that 19 Tamil rebels and 3 government soldiers died in combats in the island´s northern territory.
The clashes took place in the volatile districts of Jaffna, Welioya, Mannar and Vavuniya, the front line between the Army and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
The strongest fight occurred in Vavuniya, where government forces claimed to have killed 11 Tamil separatists during an attack in the Navathkulam area.
Government troops also occupied a defensive line in Welioya district.
