Bomb explosion triggers sectarian violence in Pakistani agency

Islamabad : More than two tribesmen were killed and over a dozen others wounded in a bomb explosion and subsequent sectarian violence on Saturday in Pakistani tribal agency of Kurrum, known as hotbed of sectarian violence, said officials. A convoy of passenger vans was traveling to Peshawar city from Parachinar, main town of the agency, under military protection when at a bridge it was targeted with a remote-controlled bomb, security officials told KUNA.

They said the explosion killed one person and wounded eight others, adding that a passenger van was also badly damaged.

The explosion, officials said further, triggered sectarian violence in the town. They said rival Sunni and Shia Muslims were exchange heavy fire. They added that so far one person had been reportedly dead and more than 18 persons have been admitted in the hospital.

Kurrum agency has been hub of sectarian violence since last year claiming more than 300 innocent lives.
