In an interview to leading India news channel NDTV India broadcast Saturday, Prachanda said that the electoral victory for the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) in Nepal would encourage Maoists in India to also participate in a democratic exercise. On the pre-poll violence by Maoists in Nepal, he said: ”Violence is also necessary to gain a democratic framework and to bring down monarchy.” Prachanda asserted that the King would have to abdicate the throne.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda is also the leader of People’s Liberation Army, the armed wing of Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). 12,000 Nepalis have been killed since 1996 in Maoist-related violence.
