Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh) : At least eight protesting Tibetans monks have been killed by troops in China’s Sichuan province, Tibetan exiles said here Saturday.
“During a peaceful demonstration April 3 by the monks of a monastery in Tongkor town in the Sichuan province, armed police fired on a crowd of several hundred killing at least eight Tibetans,” a spokesman of the Tibetan government-in-exile said.
The Tibetan government-in-exile is not recognised by any nation.
“Those killed include four nuns and two minors. The dead include Tseyang Kyi, Thupten Santen, Bhu Bhu Delek, Druklo Tso and Tenlo,” said the spokesman.
“Three other monks, Kyalpo, Nyima and Thupten Gelek, were critically injured in the firing during the same demonstrations.”
The anti-China violence began in Tibet March 10 and have left 148 Tibetans dead, according to the Tibetan government-in-exile. The Chinese government puts the toll at 22.
