The boy was arrested late Monday for allegedly raping his 11-year-old neighbour in Alipur area of north Delhi.

The accused took the girl, a Class 3 student, to a secluded place on a pretext and allegedly raped her. The girl reported the matter to her mother.

The victim’s mother complained to the police and the boy – a labourer staying with his elder sister in the same area – was arrested.

“He was sitting in the police station in the morning. He was supposed to be produced before a juvenile court when he gave the officials on duty the slip and managed to get away unnoticed,” a senior police official told IANS.

“A departmental enquiry has been ordered and strict action will be taken against the guilty officials. A team has been sent to the boy’s village in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh,” the official added.
