UNRWA appreciates Syria’s cooperation to aid Palestinian refugees

Damascus : Commissioner-General of the UNRWA Karen Koning AbuZayd has expressed her appreciation of the Syrian government’s cooperation with the agency and the stable environment it provides to Palestinian refugees, enabling them to live a normal life as they wait for a just solution to their ordeal.

During the opening of a school and music centre at the Khan Dannoun Palestinian refugee camp Tuesday, AbuZayd affirmed the UNRWA’s commitment in providing necessary services to Palestinian refugees, particularly health and education services.

She also expressed appreciation for the German government’s assistance in carrying out projects and its support to UNRWA and Palestinian refugees.

For his part, Director-General of the General Administration for Palestinian Arab Refugees Ali Musstafa pointed out that the UNRWA’s projects in Syria corresponds with the Syrian government’s efforts in support of the Palestinians.

He affirmed the refugees’ adherence to their rights, mainly the right of return to their homeland.

The German ambassador in Damascus, Volkmar Wenzel expressed his country’s appreciation of Syria’s continuing support of the Palestinian refugees over the last six decades, affirming that his country gives special importance to international cooperation in the field of culture and education for Palestinian refugees.

Managing director of the Music in Me organisation Franz Wolfkamp affirmed the importance of opening the music centre, the first of such projects in Syria.

The school is located in the Khan Dannoun camp near Damascus and is equipped with 12 classrooms, a lab, a library and a computer centre, providing basic-level education to more than 1,000 students.

The music centre provides musical education to children of Palestinian refugees in five camps in Syria.
