Agartala : Customs officials in Tripura have seized contraband items including animal skins from a Kolkata-bound cargo plane, officials said Wednesday.
“We have seized 178 big packets containing animal skins, foreign made shoes, cigarettes, marijuana and ornaments from the plane,” said Sucheta Sreejesh, deputy commissioner of the customs department.
The plane with postal freight landed here Tuesday evening from Imphal. Acting on a tip, custom officials searched the plane. It later left for Kolkata.
No one has been arrested in connection with the seizure of the illegal goods, booked through the postal authorities in Imphal.
The postal department introduced the cargo aircraft last year in the northeastern region to transport various postal goods to and from the region.
