Consultations are still under way on holding the proposed summit meeting on the Mideast peace process on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum to be held in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on May 18-20, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossam Zaki told MENA.

Zaki gave no more details about the consultations but said that leaders of Egypt, the United States, Jordan and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) are suggested to take part in the meeting.

Foreign media reported earlier that plans were under way for a summit meeting of presidents Bush and Abbas and possibly other Arab leaders in Egypt in May.

A diplomat involved in the preparations was quoted as saying that the mini-summit would be held to “focus on how to help Israel and the Palestinians reach an agreement on final status by the end of 2008.”
