Iraq Attacks Leave Six Dead

Baghdad : At least six persons died on Monday from fierce bomb attacks in Iraq, where a wave of violence has escalated in the last few weeks after five years of US occupation.

According to official sources, an Iraqi police patrol and a US army convoy were targeted by massive bomb attacks.

At least six persons died and nine others were wounded when a roadside bomb detonated as a security forces patrol passed by in the center of Baghdad, said police reports.

The Ministry of Interior reported that the victims included policemen and civilians.

Eyewitnesses said that various ambulances arrived at the scene of the explosion at Tairan Square to evacuate the dead and the wounded.

The other roadside bomb attack hit a US Humvee convoy, igniting a market in eastern Baghdad.

The US military vehicle was damaged by the explosion, but no further details were provided.

Also Monday, Voices of Iraq news agency reported that an Iraqi police commander, Ali Haider Yabar, was shot dead by gunmen in Basra city.
