Jammu : The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party has lodged a police complaint against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for his proposal to allow use of both Pakistani and Indian currency in the state.
Terming the suggestion as anti-national, Panthers Party vice-chairman Bharat Bhushan in a first information report (FIR) has demanded that former chief minister Sayeed, his daughter and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti and Finance Minister Tariq Hameed Karra be arrested and put on trial for waging war against the country.
The Panthers Party contended that the repeated speeches, publications and press conferences by PDP leaders promoting the idea of allowing use of Pakistani currency in Jammu and Kashmir, joint control of the state and its demilitarisation amounted to acts of sedition.
It is for the first time that a political party has lodged a complaint of this nature against a rival political party in the state. The two parties were allies when Sayeed ruled the state as chief minister during 2002-2005.
The complaint has been submitted to the superintendent of police, Jammu city (north).
PDP secretary Renu Azad termed the complaint as an “act of frustration to befool the masses.”
She also took strong exception to a Shiv Sena activists’s threat to attack PDP offices and workers in Jammu region.
“We will not remain mute spectators to the undemocratic act of the fascist forces,” she said.
