Gaza : Palestinian factions on Saturday started to respond to Egyptian questions about their views, ideas and stances to resume inter-Palestinian dialogue.
Kayed al-Ghoul, a leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), said his group was “one of the factions which sent their responses to the Egyptian leadership.”
Egypt is now waiting to get the whole answers to study them before inviting the factions, mainly the warring groups of Hamas and Fatah, into dialogue in Cairo, according to al-Ghoul.
The Egyptian letter included a question about the political split between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which boosted when Hamas took over the strip by force last year after routing Fatah forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas, while the president consolidated his power in the West Bank.
The letter also bears questions involving the agenda of the dialogue and the goals it should achieve.
A Hamas leader in Gaza said earlier on Saturday that his movement should also control the West Bank since it won parliamentary elections in 2006, ruling out imminent reconciliation with Fatah.
But a Fatah leader said Saturday that the majority of his movement supports the resumption of the dialogue.
The Egyptian efforts were obstructed last month when tension between Hamas and Fatah increased after a beachside blast that killed a girl and five Hamas members in Gaza.
Hamas launched a crackdown against Fatah in Gaza after accusing it of being behind the explosion. Fatah responded by arresting many Hamas members in the West Bank.
