The Hamas-controlled interior ministry said it was proved that the 70 organizations were working according to the law and “their papers were legal.”

But 26 other organizations were working in violation of the law “since some of them were dissolved earlier and the remaining others were working without a license,” a statement by the ministry said.

Hamas launched the crackdown against Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement after a mysterious beachside blast killed a girl and five Hamas members on July 25.

During the tension, Hamas arrested hundreds of Fatah members and shut down dozens of civil organizations it considered linked to Fatah. The secular movement denied Hamas charges that it was behind the explosion.

Hamas also claimed that the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority (PA) launched a crackdown on its organizations in West Bank in response to the Hamas arrests of Fatah supporters in Gaza, where Hamas took control last year after routing the security forces loyal to Abbas.
