Berlin : The German parliament, or Bundestag, approved with a majority vote on Friday the deployment of the Bundeswehr forces to the Somali coasts for anti-piracy operations.
The Bundestag spokesman told the press that 1400 German soldiers would be taking part in the operations as part of the EU anti-piracy campaign, dubbed Atlanta.
This is the first time that German navy personnel take part in anti-piracy operations, and the mission is set to last for one year at a cost of 45 million euro (USD 60 million).
