Russia Drills over Arctic, Atlantic

Moscow : Over 30 Russian Air Force aircraft are staging different combat missions over the Arctic and Atlantic oceans, a Defense Ministry source announced on Friday in this capital.

Air Force spokesman, Colonel Alexander Drobyshevski reported that as par of naval exercises by the Russian North Fleet, pilots are simulating air combats, reconnaissance missions, and patrolling and refueling in full flight.

The operations include bombing and missile launching against supposed enemy naval and air groups, the source said.

Two TU-160, two TU-95Ms, eight TU-22M3, two A-50, four Mig-31, 12SU-27, and two IL-78 flying cisterns were flying over the Arctic and the Atlantic at 9:00 hours, Moscow time, the military officer explained.

All flights are performed over neutral waters and under strict compliance with the International Law, Drobyshevski said.

These military maneuvers’ final stage started on January 28 and will conclude on Saturday, the colonel said.
