Bangladesh govt. to ink pacts with six nations to recover stolen money

NEW DELHI, Feb 6 (KUNA) — The military-backed caretaker government in Bangladesh will soon sign pacts with six countries as part of its campaign to recover the stolen money and assets.
The government will soon to create a body, which will coordinate signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE, Britain and the US — to recover siphoned off money, Bangladeshs leading English daily The Daily Star reported Wednesday.
The body will have members from the Bangladesh Home Ministry, the Attorney General’s Office, and other government bodies and will coordinate the process to recover stolen money as part of the government’s anti-graft campaign, The Daily Star said.
Nearly 10 Bangladeshi officials would undergo a special training under a course titled “Stolen Assets Recovery” in Switzerland from February 28 to March 10, funded by the World Bank.
A new law titled ‘Anti-Money Laundering Ordinance’ was also in the offing to empower the Bangladesh central bank or the government for signing pacts with other countries to recover stolen assets.
