Finland could become Indias gateway to European Union: PM Vanhanen

NEW DELHI, Jan 6 (KUNA) — Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen Wednesday said trade ties between Helsinki and New Delhi should be expanded and the Scandinavian country could become Indias gateway to Europe.
The visiting Finnish Prime Minister called on Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna at Western Indian city of Mumbai Wednesday and discussed wide-ranging issues of bilateral trade, climate change and energy, news agency Indo Asian News Service reported.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Vanhanen said Finland should be made India’s gateway to European Union.
“India has made tremendous progress during the past few years and trade ties between the two countries must increase,” he added. He said Finland possessed the expertise, especially in the utilisation of non-conventional renewable energy sources, environment technology and solutions for sustainable development.
Vanhanen will participate at the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit that begins here Thursday and has climate change as its theme.
