Seminar on Urdu poet and political activist Makhdoom Mohiuddin inaugrated

Hyderabad: A three-day seminar on noted Urdu Poet and political activist Makhdoom Mohiuddin was inaugurated today. In a message sent by the Human Resource Development Minister, Shri Arjun Singh described Makhdoom a genuine poet who gave topmost importance to his social concerns. His poetry still fills the people with energy and enthusiasm.

“Makhdoom was truly a people’s poet. His primary identity today is that of a poet. It was through his poetry that he spread his political message”, remarked CPI General Secretary Shri A.B. Bardhan while inaugurating a three-day national seminar on noted progressive poet and a great political leader of Tilangana Movement of fifties, Makhdoom Mohiuddin.

Inaugural session of the seminar was chaired by noted theatre personality Habib Tanvir. He spoke about different aspects of Makhdoom’s life, and his role in the Tilangana movement.

The three-day seminar is being organized by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) during 8-10 February at India Islamic Cultural Centre at New Delhi.

Others speakers on the occasion included senior Congress leader Shri P. Shiv Shankar, Shri G. Venkataswami, Shri Sudhakar Reddy, MP from Andhra Pradesh. Describing Makhdoom a great communist leader, Shri G. Venkataswami talked about his association with Makhdoom said that throughout his life Makhdoom was concerned with the problems of common people. He led a simple life with great ideas. He demostrated immense courage in his struggle to achieve his goals. Makhdoom was a great leader of workers and a source of inspiration for the people of Andhra Pradesh.

This seminar is a part of celebrations of birth centenary year of Makhdoom Mohiuddin.
