Bangladesh overseas workers have become the main source of the economic stability and the record remittances also pushed up Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserve.

The countries where Bangladesh workforce went include Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Libya, Kuwait, Singapore, Brunei, Jordan, UK, Italy, Mauritius, Lebanon and Ireland.

Sources said that with the timely action taken by the government, new labor markets have been created in countries like South Korea, Poland, Canada, Romania, Russia, Afghanistan, Yemen, Angola, Nigeria and South Africa. Cyprus may open up as a new labor market.

Some 245,000 workers went to Malaysia last year.

On an average 400 to 700 Bangladesh workers go to Malaysia everyday although Malaysia has put a temporary ban on manpower import.
