Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned for about two hours following the uproar crated by opposition National Conference, which was demanding a discussion over the corruption charges leveled by one of the independent member against an ‘undisclosed’ cabinet minister.
National Conference member disrupted the proceeding of the House, soon after it met here on Monday. Demanding stern action against the guilty minister, the opposition members moved an adjournment motion before the House, which was not allowed by the Speaker.
The Speaker adjourned the House amid uproar and commotion for one hour. A meeting of chief whips of all the political parties was called by the Speaker to reach on a consensus over the matter.
The House, which was adjourned at 10:16 AM reassembled again at 11:55 AM.
Soon after the House met, NC members were again on their feet demanding a discussion over the `sensitive issues’ raised by one of the member.
In the absence of chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig responded on behalf o the government and urged that the demand for a discussion moved by opposition members may be allowed `in relaxation of the rules’.
“Though the Chair has already passed a ruling that the matter has been already discussed and it can not be discussed again, we request the Speaker that the demand may be allowed in relaxation of Business Conduct Rules”, Baig said.
Following a nod from the government, Speaker Tara Chand allowed a discussion over the matter.
