Samareh Hashemi told Financial Times on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that the International Atomic Energy Agency’s statements and recent NIE report all point to peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities.

He said a new resolution against Iran will bring no change in Iran’s stances regarding its peaceful nuclear programs because the UN Security Council resolutions are not fair.

The Iranian official also dismissed the claim that Iran’s nuclear activities were not peaceful prior to 2003.

“The idea that (Iran’s) activities in the past were not peaceful is wrong because based on an agreement with the IAEA, Tehran has answered many questions of the Agency and the process continues,” he added.

On the impact of previous UN Security Council resolutions on Iran’s economy, Samareh Hashemi said, “Iran has been subject to the US sanctions for 30 years. We are accustomed to such sanctions and have been trying to solve our problems. Meanwhile, such sanctions have no destructive impact on Iran’s economy.”

Asked about the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s claim at the Davos Forum that the US is ready to talk with Iran on condition that Tehran suspend its nuclear program, Samareh Hashemi said that Iran’s stances are based on having ties with all countries, except the Zionist regime of Israel.

He said the Islamic Republic of Iran will accept no precondition for talks with any country. Moreover, Iran’s activities are legal as international organizations have admitted and there is no reason for their suspension, he added.

“Iran does not accept any country’s intervention and behavior which would violate the nation’s rights.”

Asked about the 8th Majlis elections, Samareh Hashemi said the Iranian people have always had strong presence in the polls and this time too they will do so.
