Bush arrives in Japan for G8 summit

Toyako, Japan : U.S. President George W. Bush arrived in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido on Sunday for the annual summit of the Group of Eight (G8) industrialized nations.

Bush is expected to meet Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda for bilateral talks later on Sunday, a day before the summit opens in the resort of Toyako.

Host Japan has made climate change a top theme for talks at the gathering in the northern resort of Toyako. Bush and other G8 leaders will also discuss the world economy and African development, among other topics.

Bush, who will be attending his last G8 summit as U.S. president, has said he would press for progress in the global battle against climate change and push G8 leaders to deliver on pledges to help African countries fight diseases.

The G8 groups Britain, Canada, Italy, Japan, France, Germany, Russia and the United States.
