Newly-elected Nepali president resigns from all party posts

Kathmandu : President of Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala has accepted the resignation tendered by newly-elected President Rambaran Baran Yadav from the post of the party’s General Secretary and member of the party, stating that he needed to be independent from partisan affiliation to maintain dignity and integrity of the post of the president, the National News Agency RSS reported on Wednesday.

According to the RSS, the interim constitution under the provision of president specifies that if the person elected to the post of the president happens to be holding any political post, it would be fall vacant automatically.

As Yadav was elected in the April-10 Constituent Assembly (CA) election, his post of CA member has also been vacated as per the constitutional provision.

Ram Baran Yadav from Nepali Congress was elected the first president of the country on Monday.
