New Delhi : The central government has decided to upgrade police stations across the country and would spend Rs.20 billion ($472 million) for this, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said here Monday.
“The central government has decided to allocate Rs.20 billion to upgrade and modernise 14,000 police stations across the country,” Patil said while addressing the annual summit of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) here.
He added that the funds would be released to the states shortly so that the modernisation work could be carried out on a priority basis.
“In a bid to provide security, peace and tranquillity to the people, it has become all the more necessary to upgrade the police force physically and technologically,” he added.
He said trends and statistics indicated that overall security situation had not deteriorated but improved in certain parts of the country.
Patil also spoke of foreign businesses and entrepreneurs setting bases in the country.
“We are allowing the entrepreneurs from other countries to come to India. Human beings can do great things and bring about all round development for one and all in the shortest possible time,” he said.
