Chandigarh : The Chandigarh administration Thursday announced a cut in the value added tax (VAT) on petrol and cooking gas in the city.
The administration has slashed VAT on petrol by 2 percent, bringing down the price by 70 paise to Rs 50.19 per litre, and 4 percent VAT on the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) which is used for cooking.
LPG would now cost Rs.339.50, cheaper by Rs.13.50, per cylinder in the city.
The VAT on branded petrol will remain at the previous level of 22 percent. The price of petrol is now cheapest in Chandigarh in the entire tri-city area that includes Mohali and Panchkula.
There is no change in the price of diesel that will remain at Rs 34.67 per litre. The new prices come in effect Thursday midnight.
