Baghdad : Three American soldiers and an interpreter were killed in a roadside bomb attack in Nineveh province, the U.S. military said on Wednesday.
The attack occurred at 10:45 p.m. (1945 GMT) on Tuesday in Nineveh province, a military statement said without providing further details about the incident.
The province is the scene where the U.S. and Iraqi security forces are conducting a major security crackdown against insurgent groups, including al-Qaida in Iraq network. Nineveh is said to be one of the last strongholds of al-Qaida fighters in the war-torn country.
The latest attack came hours after two U.S. soldiers and two Americans were killed in a bombing in the district council office of Baghdad’s Shiite bastion of Sadr City neighborhood.
Another U.S. soldier and three of the local council members were also injured by the Sadr City attack.
On Monday, two U.S. soldiers were killed in small arms fire after a meeting in the local council office in the town of Madain, south of Baghdad.
The latest deaths bring the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion to about 4,109, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
