Washington Plans to Keep Troops in Iraq

Washington : President George W. Bush’s government decided to keep the current number of troops in Iraq, at least until July, Los Angeles Times daily confirmed on Sunday.

The White House is trying that the US military units help Baghdad’s administration with security of the electoral process, scheduled for the coming months in the Arab country.

An Pentagon official spokesperson said Washington has not decided yet either if it certifies a planned cut in the time of the US soldiers’ combat missions.

The bush administration is planning that its troops have a leading role in controlling provincial elections, planned for several Iraqi departments, the Californian newspaper said.

The United States sent around 21,500 additional troops and 4,000 soldiers in brigades to support Iraq I 2007, in an effort to increase its military intervention security.

Around 4,000 US troops have died in Iraq, where 155,000 Pentagon soldiers still remain.
