Islamabad : Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro Monday sent a communication to President Pervez Musharraf, advising him to convene the new parliament’s session.
According to the constitution, Musharraf has to convene the National Assembly session on the advice of the prime minister.
Earlier, caretaker Law Minister Syed Afzal Haider wrote to Soomro for the convening of the session.
“The president will either set a date for the assembly session Wednesday or Thursday,” Haider told the private GEO television.
Country’s two major parties, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), signed a joint declaration on the formation of a new government Sunday.
The PPP, which emerged as the largest single party in parliament after the election, followed by the PML-N, urged early convening of parliament session, at which speaker and deputy speaker as well as new prime minister will be elected.
The prime minister and the presiding officers of the house will be from the PPP, according to the joint declaration. But the slot for the prime minister is yet to be decided.
The two parties also agreed that the restoration of the deposed judges sacked by Musharraf last November should be brought about through a parliamentary to be passed in the National Assembly within 30 days of the formation of the federal government.
