Two killed, 14 injured in hotel blasts in Thailand

Bangkok : Two blasts Saturday evening at a hotel in Thailand’s restive southern province of Pattani killed two people and injured at least 14, media here reported.

A bomb exploded at 8.00 p.m. local time in a ground floor restroom at the eight-storey CS hotel causing little damage.

Twenty minutes later another bomb exploded inside a car parked in front of the hotel, about 15 metres from the lobby, according to a report by news network The Nation.

One security guard was killed instantly and a hotel driver died later in hospital. Of the 14 injured, five were taken to the provincial hospital, two of them in critical condition. The explosion broke all the windows of the hotel.

The injured include hotel owner Anusas Suwanmongkhol, who is an appointed senator and a journalist with The Nation Pares Lohasen.

The security source said suspected insurgents chose the hotel as it is frequented by prominent personalities of the region.
