India, Vietnam sign MoU on security cooperation

New Delhi : Vietnam and India have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation in fighting international terrorism and drug trafficking, the Vietnam news agency reported Tuesday.

The memorandum was signed between Indian Home Minister Shivraj Patil and visiting Vietnamese Minister of Public Security General Le Hong Anh, who has been on a five-day visit to India beginning March 21.

During the talks, the two ministers reviewed initiatives to expand and enhance cooperation in combating terrorism, drug trafficking, transnational crimes, money laundering, hi-tech and other criminals.

The minister also visited the Forensic Science Centre of the Indian Central Investigation Agency and the National Security Forces Training Centre.

Le also paid a courtesy visit to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Vietnam and India signed a judicial assistance agreement during Indian Home Minister Shivraj Patils visit to Vietnam in 2007.

India also offered help to Viet Nam in training officials in the investigation of money laundering, economic criminals, organised crimes and drug trafficking.
